The Australian Shepherd is a working dog that was developed—despite its name—in the United States in the 19th century. The dog, commonly known as an Aussie, is popular in its native California and is growing in popularity in countries across the world.
The Aussie is similar to the Border Collie in a lot of ways. The Border Collie is a hardworking breed of herding dog that originated in the border country of England and Scotland. They are regarded by many as the most intelligent dog breed. Like some other working dogs, some Border Collies are highly energetic, and as a result have a tendency towards neurotic or destructive behavior if not given enough to do mentally and/or physically. Like many working breeds, the Aussie and Border Collie has considerable energy and drive and usually needs a job to do. It often excels at dog sports such as frisbee and dog agility. In these pages you will find information and pictures about my Australian Shepherds. We compete in agility, disc, herding, obedience, and dock diving. To the left, Java, Fergie, Trinity and Bayer.
